NOAC

Every two years, Arrowmen from across the country gather at a major university for the National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC).NOAC is Scouting’s second-largest national programevent, second only to the National Scout Jamboree. NOAC draws over 7000 Arrowmen, traveling from as

far away as Europe and Asia for five days of training, fun,and fellowship.

NOAC has many different aspects and it is impossible to do everything. Each year, events are added and changed so you can go to NOAC every time and do new things each time. The main events at NOAC include training, ceremonies evaluation, American Indian events, great shows, activities, competitions and a Founder’s Day.

NOAC has something for everyone of all backgrounds and ages. Information is just being released by the OA National Committee and as further information becomes available, it will be released on the lodge website (www.woacholena.org).

Our NOAC Delegate fee is estimated at $675 and the lodge has implemented a payment plan. You will receive a NOAC Delegate Confirmation letter along with a payment booklet after your NOAC Registration and deposit are received at the Council Service Center.

More information to follow.

Journey to Excellence-

This year marks a new beginning in the Order of the Arrow.  For many years, lodges have utilized the Quality Lodge Program as the cornerstone of the goal setting and program planning process each year.  The Quality Lodge Program has changed over the years but one limitation has always been there.   For the most part just like the Quality Unit award that units have earned the requirements were not all that difficult.  In addition, the program was a binary system meaning that either you passed or failed and there was not much encouragement to strive beyond the minimum standards set by the QL program.

Last year for the first time units used the Journey to Excellence program that allows them to evaluate the status of their program using a graded system.  The National Boy Scout Committee decided to establish three levels of achievement, Bronze, Silver, and Gold in an effort to build better units.  This year the Order is using the same approach to strengthening the lodges across the nation.

The Journey to Excellence Program is dived into five parts:

  • Finance
  • Membership
  • Program
  • Council Services
  • Leadership and Governance

The requirements can be found at http://www.oa-bsa.org/annc/g11/jte/ if you are interested in learning more about the details of the program.  If you are familiar with the Quality Lodge program requirements you will see that the requirements for Bronze level JTE but the new requirements strive to give lodges reason to go beyond the QL requirements.

Our Lodge has established a goal of achieving Gold status for 2012 and everyone has a part in accomplishing this goal.  Your participation, leadership, and involvement will have direct impact on our success.  If you are an Ordeal member, seal your membership in the Order by becoming a brotherhood member.  If you are interested in a staff or other leadership position please contact our Lodge Chief or myself.

The Order of the Arrow is a thing of the individual rather than the mass. The very ideals of brotherhood, cheerfulness, and service spring to life in the flesh and blood appearance of real individuals... for what each does counts in establishing the Order's success." - E. Urner Goodman
